When manager Brian
Epstein passed away in 1967, the first cracks were showing. By the time of the
recording of the 1968 double-record set ‘The White Album’ things had gotten
worse. The Beatles were working less and less like a band, with each member
focusing on their own compositions in the studio and treating the others like
sidemen. The Beatles is a
legendary rock and pop group that officially split up in 1970. This was when
one of the band members Paul McCartney announced that he was leaving the group.
This group was active from 1960 to 1970. Many people blame John Lennon's second
wife, Yoko Ono.
Ringo
Starr was born
on July 7th 1940, at 9 Madryn Street, Dingle, Liverpool, Lancashire,
England, the son of confectioners Elsie and Richard
Starkey. His parents divorced
when he was three and he and his mother, Elsie, moved to another home in
Liverpool. Starr had dreamed of
becoming a professional actor since his younger years. He was married to his
long-time girlfriend, Maureen Cox, from 1965 - 1975, and they had three
children: Zak, Jason, and Lee. The
couple broke up in July of 1975, and he married actress Barbara Bach
George Harrison
was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England,
on February 25th 1943.
Harrison was the youngest of four children of Harold Harrison and his wife
Louise. Harrison married the
model Pattie Boyd on January 21st 1966. Harrison and Boyd had
met in 1964 during the production of the film A Hard Day's Night, in which the
19-year-old Boyd had been cast as a schoolgirl.
They separated in 1974 and their divorce was finalized in 1977. Harrison married Dark
Horse Records' secretary Olivia Harias on September 2nd 1978. They had met at the Dark Horse offices
in Los Angeles in 1974, and together had one son, Dhani Harrison, born on
August 1st 1978. Harrison
died on November 29th 2001, aged 58, from metastic non-small cell lung cancer.
Paul
McCartney was born on June 18th 1942,
in Liverpool General Hospital, where his mother, Mary, was a medical nurse and
midwife. His father, Jim, was a cotton salesman and a pianist leading the Jim
Mac's Jazz Band in Liverpool. He studied music and art, and had a happy
childhood with one younger brother, Michael. He
was engaged to Dot Rhone, actress Jane Asher, and married three times to
Linda
Eastman, Heater Mills and Nancy Shevell. In 1979 Guinness World Records described McCartney as "the Most Successful
Composer and Recording Artist of All Time", with 60 gold discs (42 with
the Beatles, 17 solo and 1 with the Beatles and Billy Preston) and sales of
100 million albums, 100 million singles.
John Lennon was born in
Liverpool on October 9th 1940. Lennon grew up with
his aunt, Mimi and uncle George
in a house called Mendips. His parents, Julia
and Fred, separated before he was two. When
Lennon was 17 his mother was killed by a bus. On
November 9th 1966, John Lennon
went to an exhibition at the Indica Gallery in Mayfair, London, and he met Yoko Ono. Lennon soon separated
from his wife, Cynthia. They were divorced that
November. On March 20, 1969,
Lennon and Ono were married in Gibraltar. On
December 8th, 1980, when Lennon returned with Ono to their
Dakota apartment on New York City's Upper West Side, he was shot seven times
by Mark David Chapman, a 25-year-old drifter.
